Volunteer Opportunities
As an alumnus or alumna of the Shidler College of Business, there are many ways you can get involved. Faculty and students appreciate the expertise and knowledge that a graduate of Shidler has to offer. If you’d like to reconnect with us, the following present diverse and vital opportunities to contribute in your own way.
Business Plan Coaching and Judging
Each year the College holds a business plan competition. Competing teams must have at least one current Shidler student. Alumni can participate on teams, as judges or coaches.
Required Qualifications
- At least 3 years of real-world business experience
- An interest in fostering entrepreneurship in Hawaii
Duties and Responsibilities for Coaches (During the months of February through April)
- Act as a mentor and resource for the team
- Share knowledge and advice with the students
- Review and comment on drafts of the team’s business plan
- Critique the team’s oral presentation
Duties and Responsibilities for Judges
- Round 1 Judges will have approximately 10 days (February 21 – March 2) to review and score no more than 6 executive summaries via email.
- Round 2 Judges will have approximately 14 days (April 12 - 26) to review and score no more than 5 business plans, and then attend and score oral presentations at the Shidler College of Business on April 26.
Payment
None. Your service is voluntary. You will receive a small gift and an invitation to the Awards Banquet.

Mentoring
Business Night presents the opportunity to become a mentor to one of Shidler’s students. This yearly tradition is a banquet at which undergraduate and graduate students are recognized for their outstanding academic and service achievements. A critical part of this event is the pairing of each student with a business professional based on common areas of interest. This matching program aims to give our students the opportunity to learn about their partner’s industry.

Shidler Ambassador Program – Help Recruit Students
The Shidler Ambassadors are a select group of current students and alumni who are dedicated to the positive promotion of the Shidler College of Business. They endeavor to attract the best students to the Shidler College, build the Shidler brand, and strengthen the Shidler community. Shidler Ambassadors serve as an essential component of the College's total public relations effort to increase enrollment and expand its global reputation. Giving
Private gifts to the Shidler College of Business are among the very valuable unrestricted monies that we receive. These monies allow the Dean to make discretionary spending decisions, allocating funds where they are most needed. An outright gift is a direct transfer of an asset to the College. Outright gifts may be made with cash, securities, stock, a life insurance policy, real estate and personal property such as art. Student Organizations
Shidler supports a wide variety of student organizations. The student groups include national fraternities, national scholastic organizations and other clubs with specific areas of interest. Student organizations provide educational seminars, internships, sports and social activities, and career and personal development opportunities.
