Mission Strategic Concepts

  • Multicultural academic community – We are a community of scholars, learners, and practitioners. We value each other, our different cultures, our interactions, the knowledge we exchange, and the sense of belonging and mutual commitment. We take pride in being academics. We create knowledge that informs our teaching and improves practice.
  • International excellence – Our striving for excellence has propelled us to be a business school of choice with an Asia-Pacific focus. Knowledge seekers come to learn; employers seek our graduates; academics come to join in our research and training initiatives; and the broader community values our counsel.
  • Hawai‘i’s unique advantages – We leverage Hawai‘i’s multicultural environment for creating and disseminating knowledge. Our environment reflects the cultures of our Asia and Pacific neighbors and hence is inviting to them. Our location provides convenient access. We leverage the University’s competencies and the expertise about Asia-Pacific of our colleagues in other Hawai‘i-based organizations.

Background

Established in 1949 as the College of Business Administration, the College was named in 2006 after alumnus Jay H. Shidler, founder and managing partner of The Shidler Group. The Shidler College of Business is reknowned for its expertise in international management education and is consistantly ranked among the nation's top 25 graduate schools for international business by U.S. News & World Report. Long recognized for its Asia-Pacific focus, the College is a professional school, offering a wide variety of degree, certificate and executive programs. The College places a strong emphasis on the development of management skills, entrepreneurship and the management of business information technology. The UH Shidler College of Business is the only graduate program in the State of Hawai‘i accredited by AACSB International.
