Certified Financial Planner Certification

The Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) certification is considered one of the most recognized financial planning certifications.

The CFP® Certification was introduced in 1972 to assure the public that a CFP® professional has met rigorous professional standards and adheres to high standards of competence and ethics. Today there are approximately 62,000 CFP® professionals practicing around the world.

Over 130 nationally accredited universities are registered with the CFP Board of Standards, Inc., and meet the rigorous curriculum of 101 sub-topic areas in income taxation, insurance, investments, trusts/estates, retirement and employee benefits, and the financial planning processes.

CFP®, Certified Financial Planner, and federally registered CFP® (with flame logo) are certification marks owned by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. These marks are awarded to individuals who successfully complete the CFP Board’s initial and ongoing certification requirements.

The Shidler College of Business at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa does not certify individuals to use the CFP®, Certified Financial Planner, and federally registered CFP® (with flame logo) certification marks. CFP® certification is granted only by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards to those persons who, in addition to completing an educational requirement such as this CFP® Board-Registered Program, have met its ethics, experience and examination requirements.
