Options and other derivatives. Equity options, index options and options on futures. Black-Scholos Model. Trading strategies and tactics. Contemporary developments in financial engineering. A-F only. Pre: 311 or consent.

As an upper level elective course, this class provides an introduction to options, futures and other derivative security markets. We will learn a core set of principles that help us understand how derivative assets are used in practice. The broad topics include the valuation models and trading strategies (hedging and speculation) involving forwards, futures, and options. We will also discuss a number of important concepts such as volatility smiles, the Greek letters, and value at risk. Although this course involves calculations along with logical reasoning, advanced mathematics such as calculus is not required. The only prerequisite for this class is BUS 314, Business Finance.
