Shidler College of Business alumnus Alexis Buchholz, BBA ’04, has released a new book, title “Why You’re Still Poor: And What to Do About It.” The book offers a practical framework to help readers build financial stability and long-term wealth through disciplined decision-making and ownership thinking.
Buchholz, who is originally from Hawai‘i, credits his time at Shidler College with shaping his foundation in finance, capital allocation and long-term strategy. Today, he brings more than two decades of professional experience advising individuals, families and entrepreneurs across the United States to the principles outlined in the book.
“Many people work hard and earn good incomes but never build lasting financial security,” Buchholz said. “The principles in this book are especially important for students and young professionals, because the habits formed early have the greatest long-term impact.”
Rather than focusing on market predictions or short-term trends, “Why You’re Still Poor (And What to Do About It)”emphasizes structure, behavioral discipline and long-term ownership. The book is designed for readers at all stages, with a particular focus on students and early-career professionals who are building the financial habits that will shape their future.
Key topics include:
- Understanding the difference between income and wealth
- Identifying financial behaviors that quietly limit long-term progress
- Converting earnings into productive, income-generating assets
- Building discipline early in one’s career
- Creating a structured approach to long-term financial growth
Buchholz is the founder and managing partner of BFG Wealth Management, an independent Registered Investment Advisor headquartered in Dallas. Through his firm, he works with clients nationwide on investment strategy and long-term financial planning.
“Financial success isn’t about predicting markets,” he said. “It’s about managing behavior. The sooner you master discipline, the more freedom you create later in life.”
A proud Shidler graduate, Buchholz remains closely connected to his Hawai‘i roots and the education that helped launch his career. He hopes the book will serve as a practical resource for current students, alumni and others seeking greater financial clarity and independence.
“Why You’re Still Poor: And What to Do About It” is available in paperback, hardcover and eBook formats through Amazon and major book distributors.
