TIM School

National War College visits TIM School

The National War College (NWC) from Washington, D.C., recently visited Hawai‘i and requested that School of Travel Industry Management (TIM School) professor Jerry Agrusa, Ph.D., provide a presentation to the group on “Understanding the role of tourism in Pacific Island Countries (PIC) economies and how climate change and pandemics affect tourism.”

Relationships (and technology) help connect the dots

When information management technology associate professor Prasanna Karhade logs into Zoom to teach his two courses at Shidler College, the gallery of boxes on his screen always includes more than his current roster. Former students, colleagues and industry experts invited to class often round out the group. Much like his own journey through academia, Karhade values personal relationships and the connections they can forge.

Celebrating the best in tourism

The 19th annual Celebrate a Legacy in Tourism event took place on April 29 and was held virtually for the first time in its history. The event raised more than $180,000 thanks to the tireless efforts of the sponsorship committee, led by Co-chairs Vicky Cayetano and Larry Rodriguez; and the generosity of sponsors and individual supporters. All proceeds raised will be exclusively used for School of Travel Industry Management (TIM School) student scholarships. A special recognition unique to this year’s event is a commemorative plaque acknowledging sponsors at the bronze level and above, which will be displayed at the TIM School.
