Finance students from the UH Mānoa Shidler College of Business placed first at the 2017 CFA Institute Research Challenge in Hawai‘i. The competition was held at the First Hawaiian Bank Center on February 18 and was hosted by CFA Society Hawaii. Other teams in the competition included Hawaii Pacific University and the University of Alaska.

With this win, the Shidler team will move on to the Americas CFA Competition in Seattle, Washington, in April.

The annual CFA Institute Research Challenge is considered to be the top finance competition for business schools around the world. Through this competition, students receive hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis. Each team is required to write a research report on their assigned company with a buy, sell, or hold recommendation, and present and defend their analysis to a panel of industry professionals. The Shidler team's presentation and report were on First Hawaiian Bank.
