President Biden signed an executive order to direct the federal government to build a plan to regulate cryptocurrencies, to recognize their popularity and potential to destabilize traditional finance. The order will coordinate financial regulators to have a better understanding about the risks and opportunities in digital assets, especially in the areas of consumer protection, national security and illicit finance.
