The Shidler College of Business at the University of Hawaii at Manoa has long held information technology in organizations as one of its strategic thrusts. The Information Technology Management (ITM) Department spearheads this area through undergraduate and graduate programs, preparing students to thrive in a digital environment. Through basic and applied research, the department creates and disseminates knowledge of the design, development, and management of information technology.
The department offers an undergraduate major in Management of Information Systems, an elective in Information Systems at the MBA level, a concentration in global information technology management in the PhD program, and an interdisciplinary PhD in Communication and Information Systems. In addition, the department offers numerous seminars and non-credit executive programs for the business community.
The department is consistently ranked among the top departments of information systems nationally for its research Faculty members in the department specialize in the areas of decisions sciences, organizational impacts of technology, systems development, database management, and health information technology management.
The department organizes the annual Hawaii International Conference on Systems Sciences (HICSS). This conference, now in its 49th year, brings together nearly 1,000 business and information systems faculty and professionals, computer sicentists and scientists. HICSS is one of the longest-standing continously running scientific conferences that brings together researchers from over 40 countries to a conference setting conducive to collaborative exchange of scientific ideas.
