Junwook Chi is an Associate Professor of Transportation at the School of Travel Industry Management, University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. His research and teaching focus on transport economics, tourism transportation, and applied economics, with particular expertise in travel demand modeling, transport policy analysis, and commodity flow analysis. His work has been published in leading journals, including Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice, Transportation Research Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review, Transport Policy, Maritime Policy and Management, and Journal of Air Transport Management.
Dr. Chi earned his Ph.D. in Transportation and Logistics from North Dakota State University and his M.Sc. in Agricultural Economics and Business from the University of Guelph in Canada. Prior to joining the TIM School, he served as the program director of transportation economics at the Nick J. Rahall II Appalachian Transportation Institute and as a transportation economist at the Center for Business and Economic Research at Marshall University.
His honors and awards include the "Excellence in Teaching Award" from the School of Travel Industry Management (2017), the "Best Paper Award" from the Global Tourism & Hospitality Conference (2016), the "Best Paper Award" from the Academy of Global Hospitality & Tourism Conference (2016), and the "Best Graduate Paper Award" from the Transportation Research Forum (2008).
Dr. Chi is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Economic Association, Western Economic Association International, Transportation Research Board, Transportation Research Forum, and the National Defense Transportation Association.
