Pauline J. Sheldon, PhD is Professor Emerita, in the School of Travel Industry Management where she also served as Dean. She has published widely in the various aspects of sustainable tourism such as demand modelling, information technology, and tourism education. Her current research includes regenerative and transformative tourism and she co-edited a Special Issue of Journal of Tourism Futures entitled Transformation and the Regenerative Future of Tourism. Her seven books on various aspects of tourism include “Wellness Tourism: Mind, Body, Spirit, Place” and “Social Entrepreneurship in Tourism: Practices, Principles and Philosophies”. She has taught at University of Balearic Islands, Spain, University of Hue, Vietnam, Bond University, Australia, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and Modul University, Vienna, Austria and has won various teaching awards. She has consulted with international organizations such as UNWTO, APEC and the World Bank, was the first woman President of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism, and co-founded the Tourism Education Futures Initiative (TEFI) and TRINET (Tourism Research Information Network). She has been awarded the Ulysses Prize for academic contributions by UNWTO, and the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Travel and Tourism Research Association (TTRA), and by the International Federation for Information Technology and Tourism (IFITT). She serves on the Advisory Board of Hawaiʻi Green Growth and the UN Local2030 Island Network, and teaches for the Art of Living Foundation. She holds a BS degree in Mathematics, an MBA and a PhD in Economics.
