Sunset Reference Center

Sunset Reference Center at University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa

The Sunset Reference Center (SRC) opened in 1978, with the help of a gift from the late, Ambassador L.W. “Bill” Lane, Jr.

The Reference Center was created to supplement the materials at Hamilton Library pertaining to Travel Industry Management (TIM), which supports scholarly activities and enhances research capabilities for TIM students. Located in historic George Hall, the SRC is a place for TIM faculty and students to study, research, and learn. Our friendly and welcoming staff invite you to drop by and visit!

With more than 7,000 items, including books, reports, statistical publications, article reprints, and subscriptions to more than 100 periodicals, the Sunset Reference Center has the largest collection of specialized resource material on tourism in Hawaiʻi. The Sunset Reference Center provides research material for faculty, students, CTPS, and more, support the research activities of the Center for Tourism Policy Studies, and serves as a major resource center for the Pacific and Asian region.

Citation Styles

Citation styles:

Citing sources is required for all of the papers you will write at a college and graduate level. There are multiple styles, but the two most common that you will use during your time as a TIM student are APA and Chicago. The SRC has both manuals available for students to use in the library.

APA (American Psychological Association) is commonly used to cite sources within the social sciences.

Chicago Manual of Style can be used for arts and humanities, as well as in physical, natural, and social sciences.

A free resource for understanding citations is Purdue OWL (Online Writing Lab). There is information on the different writing styles and citing references with countless examples. It’s a valuable and accessible resource for everyone.
