The Shidler College of Business at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa received $50,000 to establish the Hawaii Business Magazine Endowed Scholarship. The initial $25,000 gift was matched one-to-one through the Shidler's Matching Gift program to total $50,000. The scholarship is for undergraduate students majoring in business with exceptional promise and ability to make a significant contribution to Hawaiʻi's business community.
Hawaii Business magazine Publisher David Tumilowicz commented that Hawaii Business supports the development of new local business leadership by investing in the education of promising students. "An overwhelming number of Hawaiʻi business executives are educated at the University of Hawaiʻi, many at the Shidler College. This is where our future business leadership will come from, and it is important that the community supports this vital resource."
In addition to providing the scholarship, Hawaii Business hopes that "the recipient of our scholarship will contactHawaii Business to pursue opportunities for networking and introductions to business leaders in Hawaiʻi," said Tumilowicz.
PacificBasin Communications President John Alves states, "Hawaii Business clearly understands the value of supporting the Shidler College of Business in attracting highly qualified students who will become the business leaders of tomorrow. We are proud to be a partner in this program."

"We're grateful to John and David and everyone at Hawaii Business magazine for their support in establishing a scholarship endowment at the College," said V. Vance Roley, Dean of the Shidler College of Business. "Both of our organizations have similar endeavors: to sustain a healthy business community in Hawaiʻi, and to educate and inspire future generations of business leadership. Therefore, it's no surprise that we continue to seek new ways to partner with one another."
UH Mānoa Chancellor Virginia Hinshaw said, "Hawaii Business has shown a strong commitment to higher education with the establishment of the Hawaii Business Magazine Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship will provide financial support to students who are exploring a business career in Hawaiʻi and also provide them with an opportunity to learn leadership skills from Hawaiʻi's top business professionals."
