Rick Varley

Director of Internships and Career Development

Richard Varley joined Shidler College (previously College of Business Administration) at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa in May of 2001.

Rick received his undergraduate degree in political science from Hawaii Loa College in 1980, afterwards he went on to complete a Master of Arts in History from East Stroundsburg University (PA.) in 1982. He is presently working on a second MA in higher education administration at the College of Education.

Rick was the associate director for admissions at Hawaii Loa College for eight years. He has also taught speech and communication both at Kanazawa Univeristy and Hokuriku University in Kanazawa, Japan. Rick is a marathon runner and coach. He is the author of the "Runner's Guide to Oahu", published by the University of Hawaii Press, 2004.

Rick served two consecutive terms as the president of the Pacific Association for Cooperative Education. As president he worked towards raising the quality of co-op and internship standards among all public and private colleges and universities in Hawai'i.

Patrick Stuart

Assistant Director of Undergraduate Career Placement

Patrick graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the Shidler College of Business, University of Hawaii at Manoa. He later completed his Master of Business and Master of Arts, Human Resource Management from Hawaii Pacific University, while working at Northwest Airlines and traveling throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. In 1999, Patrick joined Prince Resorts Hawaii, Mauna Kea Resort, as Associate Human Resources Manager where he was able to assist employees with a wide range of employment issues and needs.

Most recently, he was Human Resources Manager for Remedy Intelligent Staffing, a full service staffing company, in which he focused on recruitment, placement, benefits, employee relations and employee development. In this role, Patrick was able to specifically consult with companies on their staffing needs and assist them with locating qualified candidates for their consideration. Alternatively, he was able to assist candidates with job skill identification to develop their foundations, and ultimately, identify potential career paths.

Patrick looks forward to working with the Shidler College of Business students, specifically, Undergraduates, in assisting them with building their foundations through internships and ultimately placement in top companies, locally, nationally, and internationally.
