Manuel L. August, Jr. Scholarship for Excellence

Shidler alumnus Manuel “Manny” August, Jr. established a $35,000 endowed scholarship for full-time undergraduate or graduate students pursuing an accounting degree at the Shidler College of Business School of Accountancy. The scholarship will also receive $5,000 from Wells Fargo Bank as a matching contribution for Fall 2017.

“I believe a strong financial education for our children is key to the future success of Hawai`i,” says August, “I am excited to establish this endowment for students of the Shidler College of Business to help them achieve the education needed to succeed.” Scholarship recipients must be graduates from a public high school in Hawai`i, and demonstrate community service and leadership qualities.

August, who graduated from James B. Castle High School in Hawai‘i, is an area sales manager for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. He is responsible for the sales team in the state of Hawai`i and sales offices located in Corona, California. Before entering the mortgage industry, he was a senior accountant in the Audit and Consulting Services Division with KHM LLP, previously known as Arthur Andersen LLP.

August is active in the community and volunteers with various charitable organizations including Habitat for Humanity, Family Programs Hawai`i, American Heart Association, Special Olympics Hawai`i and Blood Bank of Hawai`i. He serves on the School of Accountancy Advisory Board, Hawai`i Academy of Science Board and the Ho‘okāko‘o Corporation Board.

August received his BBA degree in accounting from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Shidler College of Business in 1998, and was previously a Certified Public Accountant, licensed in the state of Hawai‘i.
