Class Notes: Kelvin Chun (BBA 1982)

Kelvin Chun (BBA 1982) has been re-elected to the board of the Hawaii USA Federal Credit Union. He will serve a three-year term. Chun is an award winning educator, magician, balloon sculptor and kite enthusiast. He is best known for his educational technology and mathematics teacher background, stage magic, inventive balloon sculptures and kites.

Chun, a retired technology specialist and librarian at Nu'uanu Elementary School, has been named one of three Ed Tech Leaders of the Year by Technology & Learning magazine, a trade publication. His national prestigious awards include being recognized by the Disney American Teacher Award, the All USA Today 2000 First Teacher Team, the George Lucas Educational Foundation, the International Brotherhood of Magicians, and the Society of American Magicians.

In 2017, The Department of Learning Design and Technology (LTEC) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa’s College of Education celebrated their 50th anniversary at a reception on August 5. The celebration honored the many faculty and staff who have contributed to the department and recognized 50 distinguished alumni who have contributed to their field through professional excellence, inspirational leadership, or innovative service benefiting their communities. Chun was among the distinguished alumni. In 2016, Chun was recognized as a Moanalua High Kina'ole Award honoree.
