University of Hawai‘i Shidler College of Business Professor Stephen Vargo was once again named to Clarivate’s Highly Cited Researchers 2021 list. This is Vargo’s eighth consecutive year being recognized on the list in the business and economics discipline.
This year, more than 6,600 researchers from over 70 countries and regions were recognized. The prestigious list recognizes scientists and social scientists who have demonstrated significant and broad influence through their publication of multiple highly cited papers over the past decade. The names are drawn from the publications that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science citation index.
“Professor Vargo's recognition as a highly cited researcher year after year is a shining example of the college’s investments in faculty research resources,” Shidler College Dean Vance Roley, said. “We are extremely proud of the success in his research and commitment to educating others across the globe.”
Vargo earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Oklahoma and a doctorate in marketing from the Michael F. Price College of Business at the University of Oklahoma. He is an expert in research pertaining to market and market theory, strategy and service-encounter. Vargo has published more than 100 research publications that have been featured in notable journals including the Journal of Marketing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Service Research, Journal of International Marketing, Journal of Retailing and MIS Quarterly. Vargo currently has more than 70,000 citations according to Google Scholar.
