Hotel executives address Hawai‘i reopening in webinar series

Prompted by the reopening of the Hawai‘i tourism industry this week, the alumni associations of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa’s Shidler College of Business and School of Travel Industry Management present a webinar focused on the hotel industry on Tuesday, October 20, 10–11:30 a.m. via Zoom.

“Impacts and Forecast of the Hotel Industry” features:

  • Tom Calame, area general manager, Marriott Hawaii, managing director, Kyo-ya Hotels & Resorts, Ltd.
  • Mufi Hannemann, president and CEO, Hawai‘i Lodging & Tourism Association
  • Elliot Mills, vice president, hotel operations, Disneyland Resort and Aulani
  • Linda Rodrigues, senior vice president—marketing, Hilton Grand Vacations
  • Kelly Sanders, senior director of operations—Hawai‘i, Highgate Hotels

Topics include the overview of the hotel industry, a timeline of reopening of hotels in Hawai’i, how phased reopenings will work, safety and cleanliness protocols, the role of technology post-COVID, booking trends, changes in the timeshare industry, reopening of resorts, restaurants and retail, and group bookings and large event forecast.

“Impacts and Forecast of the Hotel Industry” is the fourth of seven webinars in a series designed to stimulate ideas that can be implemented by Hawai‘i businesses, tourism stakeholders, hospitality workers and the general public. Each webinar features a different industry topic, such as health and safety, airline, hotel, retail, restaurant and a Japan-focused webinar.

The free series will continue every Tuesday until November 17.
